Linsksys PAP2 G723 on both Lines Configuration(s)
Difference between Codec G729a and Codec G723:
Common knowledge dictates that G729a (which consumes about 24 kbps upload) will provide a higher voice quality (QoS) since the algorithm takes voice samplings more often than G723 (which consumes about 16 kbps upload).
G729a: (80 samples for 10 ms frames)
G723: (40 samples for 10 ms frames)
Impact on Linksys PAP2:
If the codec G729a is configured on Line 1 and and Line 1 is being used, any call made on Line 2 WHILE Line 1 is in use (G729a) will automatically make Line 2 jump/default to the codec G711 regardless of what is configured on Line 2. Codec G711 is the one of the highest bandwidth codecs there is in the market consuming 64 kbps. Codec G711 is not recommended for weak ADSL markets that are in the High Volume Retail minutes business since UPLOAD is synonymous with Revenue/Income.
Reason: Linksys as a company paid for one G729a license and two licenses of G723 for use on the PAP2.
Solution: Configure codec G723 on Line 1 and Line 2. This video will show the correct way to configure any Linksys PAP2 to TalkFree with the best QoS output in NON Blocked Markets: South America, Kuwait, KSA, Bahrain. In blocked markets alternative Ports are open or VPN is available for UAE, Oman and Qatari markets.
